Yam'Tcha shop: the best bao in Paris just a stone's throw from Les Halles?

There are some addresses in Paris that you'd like to keep to yourself, but never quite manage to keep secret. Boutique Yam'Tcha is one of them. This discreet little stall on rue Saint-Honoré has recently established itself as the Parisian temple of Bao, reinventing Chinese street food in its own way to offer something resolutely different from other Asian restaurants in the capital. Created by the chef Adeline Grattard, also head of the starred restaurant Yam'TchaThis boutique is a more accessible, more relaxed but just as demanding version. Discover this special place, where the curious and the gourmet meet over a steaming bao.

Baos like jewels

The star here is the bao, the traditional Chinese steamed bun, which has been given a French twist. Each bite is a perfect balance of textures, between soft, melting and crunchy. To vary the pleasures, we change the toppings, each one revealing its very own personality:
  • The bao Stilton-pac choy, has become a firm favourite with regulars, with its blend of blue cheese and crunchy vegetables.
  • Bao with cabbage confit and pork bellygenerous and full of character.
  • Without forgetting Peking duck bao, a nod to Hong Kong street food, but in haute couture style.
What we particularly like about Boutique Yam'Tcha is that everything is homemade, from the bao to the filling, with an almost artisanal rigour. The dough is light, the finish silky and each filling has its own universe.

A short but well thought-out offer

There's no long menu here. Each day brings a selection of 4 or 5 baos, renewed according to inspiration and seasonal produce. Prices are around €5 to €6 each, which is very reasonable for this level of quality and creativity. It's the perfect opportunity to try a bit of everything without risking a nasty surprise when it comes to the bill. You can also be tempted by side dishes such as sticky riceor rare teasThe chef is passionate about her dishes. And if you fancy extending the pleasure at home (or if you're in too much of a hurry to get off your backside), the shop is the perfect place to pick up your favourites.

A Zen atmosphere, Parisian style

The shop is very small, almost hidden from prying eyes. Inside, seating is scarce and we prefer to sit at the counter. The light is soft and the atmosphere rather calm, which is a welcome relief from the hustle and bustle of Paris.

Boutique Yam'Tcha is minimalist but well thought-out: just what we've come to expect from this type of Asian address in Paris.
We're halfway between an Asian tea house and a Parisian bistro. The perfect mix for a timeless gourmet break.

 Why are we going back?

  1. Author baosrefined and surprising
  2. A selection of rare teas to accompany
  3. Affordable prices, for cuisine bordering on haute gastronomy
  4. A peaceful placebut elegant

If you think you've had your fill of the best Bao in Paris, this is the place for you. Generous, gastronomic cuisine that doesn't take itself too seriously, in a setting where everyone feels at ease. Top your list if you like Asian cuisine with a twist.
