Bar à Momos: the Tibetan culinary experience in Paris

Hidden between two soulless signs on the faubourg Saint-AntoineThis tiny restaurant doesn't look like much at first glance.

A kitsch decor, walls adorned with portraits of the Dalai Lama, and tables squeezed together as if in a crowded train carriage...

But once you've settled in, the journey begins: the tastiest momos in the capital are served here. Welcome to the Bar à Momos, the Tibetan nugget in the 12th arrondissement.

Homemade momos to die for

The restaurant's must-try? The momos, of course.

These little ravioli from Tibet, prepared before your very eyes, are lovingly stuffed with pork and chives, beef and onions, spinach and cabbage and cheese, or potato and ginger and garlic.

Order them by the 8, steamed, fried or dipped in a hot broth. Special mention goes to the pan-fried version, dipped in a spicy soy sauce that's just right.
But the Bar à Momos doesn't stop there. It also serves ultra-refreshing soups, such as Thukpa, a spicy broth topped with homemade pasta, or the more rustic Tsamtang, made with grilled barley flour and minced meat.

And for those who like it crunchy, try the Shapaley fried XXL momosCrispy on the outside, melt-in-the-mouth on the inside.
Everything is cooked just like at home, with simple but well prepared ingredients. The result is a generous cuisine that's good for the body without being too heavy on the stomach.

Cool formulas and low prices for big appetites

You don't have to sell a kidney to eat here. Plates range from 11.50 and €14.50, the shearty meals around €12and the Momos formula at €15.90 allows you to try a bit of everything: ravioli + soup, perfect for those who are undecided (or greedy).

Support services (rice, steamed Tibetan bread, vegetables) are less than €4, and the desserts oscillate between 3.80 and € 5.20.
Try sho dui, a Tibetan cousin of rice pudding, sweetened with yoghurt: a curiosity well worth the diversions.

On the drinks front, a fine wine list and a selection of house cocktails.
But to extend the experience, we encourage you to try the Tibetan tea with flower petals, goji and longans (€3.80), sweet and floral, perfectly suited to the atmosphere of the place. A Kirin beer at €3.50 for evenings out with friends, and off you go.

A confusing décor... but who cares?

We warn you: if you're looking for an Instagrammable address, don't bother. The Bar à Momos has more of a Tibetan Conforama atmosphere, with its melamine-covered tables, old-fashioned light fittings and posters of Buddha from high school.

But it's precisely here that you'll feel at home. No fuss, no fancy decor.
It's all about the food.

The place is small, noisy and lively. People come with colleagues, solo or as a couple, and often share a table with a stranger - a perfect immersion in the canteen spirit. And even when it's full, the service is fast and friendly.

Why do we love it?

  • The best homemade momos in Paris, served steamed, pan-fried or in broth
