Un Jour à Hanoi: your new Vietnamese canteen in Paris

See you in the 14ᵉ arrondissement of Paris, just a stone's throw from Denfert-Rochereau, for a stopover in the heart of the Vietnamese capital.

At A day in HanoiFor a meal, forget Paris and imagine yourself in the narrow streets of Phô Cô or on the banks of Lake Hô Tây.

This small, unpretentious restaurant treats foodies to authentic, generous recipes that are often impossible to find elsewhere.

Home cooking, true to its Vietnamese roots

At A day in HanoiCooking is passed down from generation to generation. Each dish seems to come straight from the family table. The recipes are precise, unadorned but rich in flavour. And to make matters worse, the produce is always fresh. It's impossible to talk about the address without mentioning the cha cá la vongA speciality that's hard to find in Paris. This marinated then grilled fish fillet, covered in chives and served with rice vermicelli, roasted peanuts and a sauce made from fermented prawn paste, is simply delicious. The fish melts in your mouth, and the mix of textures creates an explosion of flavours. Another must: the bánh xèo, These crispy, slightly gooey pancakes are stuffed with soya and mushrooms for the vegetarian version. But we haven't forgotten the indestructible bo buns, which are among the best in the capital: well-marinated beef or chicken, crispy egg rolls, fried onions and peanuts for crunch, all seasoned to perfection. THE pho "s are also on offer, as comforting as you could wish for, with a long simmered broth just like in Hanoi.

A map that gets straight to the point

If we go back to A day in Hanoiis for its simple but effective menu. There's no overkill here: prices are kept low. Le lunch menu at €11 (excluding bo bun), with starter + main course or main course + dessert, perfect for a quick but tasty break. A la carte, entries such as pork egg rolls or Vietnamese ravioli, oscillate between between €7 and €11while hot dishes go to from €11 to €19.50. When it comes to sweet treats, we stick to the house classics: coconut flan, tapioca pearls with coconut milk, and more. 5 and €6.

A lively little room with raw charm

TheA day in Hanoi has nothing pretentious about it, and that's precisely what makes it so charming. A simple room, with exposed brick walls, tightly packed tables and black banquettes. The green of the table tops adds a touch of freshness, and a few traditional Vietnamese objects are a reminder of the house's roots. It's lively, often packed to the rafters, a little noisy at peak times, but warm and welcoming. We eat elbow to elbow, in a relaxed atmosphere that makes us forget the décor and concentrate on what's on the plate. If you arrive and the restaurant is full, don't panic! You can try your luck at the annex next door at 47 rue Descartes - same cuisine, same atmosphere.

Why do we love it?

  • Authentic, uncompromising and generous cuisine
  • Unbeatable prices for such quality
  • A warm atmosphere that makes you feel right at home
  • The annex next door in case it's full
