Vesper: Nikkei fusion and stylish cocktails in the 7th arrondissement
As soon as you walk past, it's hard not to slow down. A hushed terrace, subdued lighting, mellow music... Vesper has that intriguing magnetic quality.
Nestled avenue Bosquetthis sushi bar nikkei mix fusion cuisineIt's the perfect place for a good time, with polished cocktails and an ultra-chic vibe that's never too flashy. Spoiler: theirs duck gyozas are worth the diversions alone.
A Franco-Nickei cuisine that's really well-balanced
At the helm of Vesper are Lucas Felzineby Ze Kitchen Galerie, who has mastered the art of Japanese-Peruvian fusion like no one else. Here, you can enjoy dishes that are as refined as they are delicious.
For starters : crispy duck gyozas topped with a coconut curry broth, crispy rice with salmon or tuna tataki with miso.
Main course: we love the bcaramelised lack cod (to die for), grilled octopus, beef picanha or tangy yellowtail ceviche just the way we like them.
Each dish is designed to strike a balance between powerful and delicate flavours, spiced up with mild spices and playing on the mix of crunchy and melt-in-the-mouth textures.
But how can we talk about our visit to Vesper without mentioning the local star!
The sushi bar isn't just there for show: nigiri with foie gras or hamachi, signature rolls, sashimi sliced cleanly.
Each piece is accompanied by a homemade soy sauce and spicy wasabi.
Special mention should be made of the nigiri plates (12 pieces for €60), perfect for sharing or devouring on their own with a glass of sparkling sake.
Clever menus and a well-mastered a la carte menu
A gourmet option (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg) that lets you enjoy the essentials without blowing your budget.
The menu is upmarket but still affordable: Starters from €12 to €22, main courses from €25 to €42, desserts around €10. Cocktails range from €12 to €16, with pretty in-house creations like the Nikkei Mule and the Cactus Club.
On Sundays, there's a buffet brunch (€48), with pastries, ceviche, black cod, eggs benedict... all accompanied by freshly squeezed juices and, for the more adventurous, a cocktail.
Every 3rd Sunday of the month, there's a children's corner with entertainment - ideal for a treat without having the little ones babysat.
A chic but not boring atmosphere
In the evening, the place fills up fast, with a cocktail and sashimi atmosphere and a mix of trendy thirty-somethings, discreet epicureans and well-informed tourists. A DJ takes over the decks at the end of the week, but the volume remains reasonable: here, we dine and talk, no need to shout over our black cod.
Why do we love it?
- A true nikkei fusion: neither gadget nor catch-all
- The duck gyozas, a cult favourite
- A sophisticated decor, without overdoing it
- Smart lunch menus and a stylish Sunday brunch
- Cocktails that last (and last the evening)
