The Hood: the pan-Asian hangout that feels properly future-proof
Between Oberkampf and Parmentier, a Brooklyn breeze is blowing through the 11th arrondissement. Welcome to The Hood, the café-restaurant where a Vietnamese woman and a Singaporean woman have merged their talents to create a modern and laid-back pan-Asian eatery. Here, you don't just come to eat: you explore, you sip, you share, and above all, you feast.
A tour of Asia on your plate
Here, no pompous culinary waffle, just dishes that hit the heart and the palate.
The Hood's map flickers between Vietnam, Burma and Malaysia, with a few classics revisited in an urban street food style.
La lahpet thoke salad is both a fresh and crunchy slap in the face: fermented tea leaves, cabbage, tomatoes and crushed nuts.
The fried chicken drumsticks, really chunky just how we like them, are dipped in a sriracha mayo that wakes up the taste buds.
And if you’re more of a soup person (we get it, especially when the temperatures start to drop), the rice noodles with coconut milk, marinated lotus root and sambal will whisk you straight away to the tropics.
You simply can’t miss the caramel pork, meltingly tender, or of Pandan and coconut milk sponge cake, light as a cloud, perfect for finishing on a sweet note.
As for drinks, the journey continues with specialty coffee from Hexagone Café, a spiced golden milk or pressed juices to accompany the dishes.
And if you’d like to extend the experience, the delicatessen section is brimming with culinary gems to take home.
Gentle prices that do you good
Good news: here, treating yourself doesn't make your wallet weep. The mains range between €9 and €15, the sides from €2.50 to €6.50, and the desserts are around €5-6. A special mention for the homemade tapas that don't cost more than 8-10 euros and which allow you to try loads of things without breaking the bank. Coffees and hot drinks range from €2.50 to €6, with an iced latte at €4.50. For a full lunch or a relaxed brunch, you can come away feeling full for just around fifteen euros. In short, quality + generosity + affordable prices = a winning combination.A Parisian spot that oozes cool
The Hood is also a large, bright space where industrial design meets cosy comfort. Fluted counter, glass light fittings, leatherette banquettes and touches of light wood: the place is made for lingering at a table, drinking a coffee, and listening to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah or The Strokes playing from the speakers. In short, an atmosphere that is at once urban, musical and welcoming, making you want to stay all afternoon. Why do we love it?
